Wilfred was the happiest little boy alive. He was full of life, incredibly joyful and took delight in everything. He didn\u2019t like people to be sad and he had an amazing talent for making people smile. Wilfred died of cancer in March 2020 and five friends (Jen, Jenn, Jem, Emma and Melanie) walked 1239 miles between them by Wilfred's 4th birthday in November 2020 - a mile for every day he was alive. We raised over \u00a312,800 for Blood Cancer UK<\/strong>.<\/p>

For 2021 we have planned an EVEN BIGGER<\/strong> challenge. Between us we will walk (virtually of course) from Wilfred\u2019s house to Mount Everest, a distance of 4635 miles. Wilfred really wanted to see a mountain and what better mountain to show him than the biggest in the world?!<\/p>

Wilfred loved being alive and didn't like dithering so we have taken a vow to STOP DITHERING and get out and log some Miles for Wilf and to raise funds for Blood Cancer UK<\/a>.<\/p>

Wilfred's Story<\/strong><\/h2><\/blockquote>

Wilfred loved trains and vehicles and traffic lights and bumps and nature and drinking nettle tea with honey. And he loved his dog Olaf. He loved drawing and reading and exploring and making dams and he loved to run. He was always so active and would often tell you to \u2018Stop dithering!\u2019. To him the world was too interesting to stay still for long.<\/p>

\u00a0At the beginning of March 2020 he was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL) - as childhood cancers go this is supposed to be a \u2018good one\u2019, so our hopes for Wilfred\u2019s recovery were high and we were quickly adapting to life with a seriously ill little boy.\u00a0 But then on 28th March he died. Just like that. He had been feeling a bit poorly and restless and then he fell unconscious in my arms and never came around. His little heart stopped in the ambulance on the way to hospital and, despite the amazing medical team trying to save his life for over an hour, that was it, our wonderful Wilfred had gone.<\/p>

\u00a0He was the best thing that happened in our lives and undoubtedly made me a better person. We were lucky to have Wilfred with us for three years and four months and we have a lot to learn from Wilfred\u2019s patience and kindness and wise words, he was an old soul in a young body.<\/p>

We are raising funds for Blood Cancer UK to help other people in this situation and to fund research into blood cancers. We were told when Wilfred was diagnosed that huge progress had been made in treating ALL in recent years.\u00a0 So, if the story of Wilfred\u2019s death can help us gain an even better understanding of these diseases then some good, however small, will have come of it.<\/p>
